Charges

Charges is an APIO product that allows businesses to create installment-based payments, where a total amount is automatically split into multiple scheduled charges.

This is commonly used for financing, payment plans, or high-value purchases that need to be paid over time.

How Charges Work

With Charges, a business defines:

  • The total amount to be charged
  • The number of installments
  • The payment method used for automatic collection

APIO automatically calculates and schedules each installment, handling payment execution and tracking.

Example

A charge of CLP 1,200,000 split into 12 installments results in:

  • 12 automatic charges of CLP 100,000 each

Each installment is charged according to the configured schedule.

Charge Flow

  1. Charge Creation
The merchant creates a charge and specifies:

    • Total amount
    • Number of installments

APIO divides the total amount across the installments.

  2. Payer Approval
The payer is notified and must approve the charge in the merchant’s marketplace and register a payment method.

  3. Automatic Collection
Once approved, APIO automatically charges each installment according to the schedule.

Special Installments

APIO allows defining custom installment amounts.

This enables scenarios such as:

  • A higher first installment (e.g. CLP 200,000)
  • A higher specific installment (e.g. the 6th installment of CLP 400,000)

The remaining amount is automatically distributed across the other installments.

Prepayment and Manual Payments

Payers can prepay installments or recover failed payments using alternative payment methods.

Supported options include:

  • Khipu
  • MercadoPago

These methods can be used to:

  • Pay installments in advance
  • Pay specific installments
  • Recover installments where automatic collection failed

Failed Installments

If an automatic installment charge fails:

  • APIO marks the installment as unpaid
  • The payer can manually complete the payment using supported payment methods
  • Automatic charges continue for future installments unless restricted

Benefits of Charges

  • Flexible installment-based payments
  • Automatic and manual payment support
  • Support for custom installment amounts
  • Seamless integration with Webpay Oneclick
  • Reduced operational complexity for merchants

Charges allow businesses to offer flexible payment plans while maintaining full control and visibility over installment collection.
